September 22, 2023 – Today, Canadian singer-songwriter laye releases her sophomore project losers, via Sony Music Entertainment Canada. Listen HERE

With over 24M global audio streams, laye is an artist on the rise, and this body of work pulls together a confident collection of guitar-driven alt-pop songs, following a steady stream of releases over the past many months. Working with a slew of prominent co-writers and producers, including Cici Ward (GAYLE, Cheat Codes, Huddy), Oscar Neidhardt (Thirty Seconds to Mars, Emeline, Conan Gray), and Stevie Aiello (Thirty Seconds to Mars, Starset), losers is the work of an artist laying bare the complicated emotions of loss. Says laye, losers was formed when I found myself at a standstill. The majority of the EP was written at a time when I was losing: losing at love, losing at life, and losing myself.”

The EP is an eight-song collection, including previously released tracks “blue,” “touching myself,” “Unhappier,” and “you’re my achilles heel” along with new tracks “backseat driver,” “I saw god,” “my last cigarette,” and “sunday scaries.” Taken together, the EP takes listeners on an authentic journey. “To me,” says laye, “losers feels like the early-2000s Tumblr era. These are songs that would have made me lock myself in my room to cry, dance, and maybe sneak a cigarette. They’re songs to lose yourself in.”

laye has been praised for both her songwriting and keen alt-pop sensibilities, and previously released tracks from losers have established her with both critics and fans as an “edgy, alternative-tinged pop artist to watch” (Ones to Watch). losers showcases a wide range of talent and laye’s willingness to mine the emotional depths, pairing raw, personal lyrics with a commitment to melody that make this artist irresistible.

ABOUT LAYE

Montreal-born-and-raised singer/songwriter laye first floated onto the scene and released four tracks in 2018. She followed this up with her 2019 debut album lonesome. In 2023, laye returned with her eight-track EP losers, which saw the artist press forward into the world of gritty alt-pop. Sonically grungy and lyrically authentic, losers tells a story of unwinding and unraveling – songs for crying and songs for dancing. All of laye’s projects and iterations have maintained her dark aesthetic, creating a complete artistic vision that can sometimes be unnerving and is always flawlessly compelling.  With over 24 million global audio streams, and features in FASHION and Paper magazines, laye is one of Canada’s most exciting alt-pop artists.
