(October 24, 2018) – Today Kesha has released the music video companion to her song “Here Comes The Change,” her rallying cry for social justice that is featured in the Participant Media film On the Basis of Sex, opening December 25 (limited), distributed by Focus Features.
The black and white video, which was directed by Jonas Åkerlund (who also directed the video for Kesha’s GRAMMY-nominated “Praying”), keeps the visuals raw and focused on the message of the song, with Kesha strumming her guitar, backing herself on the harmonica, and delivering some of her most passionate vocals to date. Featured throughout the video are some never before seen clips from On the Basis of Sex, which tells an inspiring and spirited story that follows young lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsburg as she teams with her husband Marty to bring a groundbreaking case before the U.S. Court of Appeals and overturn a century of gender discrimination.
The video launched today using YouTube’s new video premiere feature, YouTube Premieres, which allowed for viewers to chat with Kesha and experience the new video in real-time. Watch HERE: http://smarturl.it/Kesha_HCTC
Mimi Leder, director of On the Basis of Sex, said she wanted Kesha to write and perform this song “because her passionate voice and immense talent magnify the social justice imperatives Ruth Bader Ginsburg continues to fight for every day.”
“Here Comes The Change” (written by Kesha with Drew Pearson and Wrabel specifically for the film) has been praised as “an empowering country-hued belter” by Billboard, while MTV called it “a passionate rallying cry for equality”. Kesha debuted “Here Comes The Change” last month alongside an essay on Refinery 29 where she wrote about the message of equality and empowerment echoed in the new song, encouraging young people to register to vote.
