KELSEY LU PREMIERES  ANIMATED LYRIC VIDEO FOR NEW SONG “BLOOD”

Blood Album Art

“Kelsey Lu makes slow and spacious music, confronting you with lingering tones and vocal melodies that ascend and dive.” – The New York Times

“[Lu’s] music is both thrilling and haunting, from the first piercing note of her cello to her angelic vocals, both instruments blending seamlessly to create one cohesive sound.” – Teen Vogue

“emotionally generous and brimming with hairpin melodic turns” – Pitchfork

Kelsey Lu
premieres “Blood” today with an animated lyric video by Dachi Cole—listen/watch here. The new song is produced by Adrian Younge (Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Common) and is the title-track off her forthcoming debut album, Blood, due April 19 on Columbia Records—pre-save the album here.

“Blood” follows previously released singles “Due West,” which Pitchfork calls “[Lu’s] most arresting excursion yet” and her cover of 10cc’s classic “I’m Not in Love, which The FADER calls “meditative, oscillating between ambient and familiar.”

Blood is Lu’s first project in three years since her critically acclaimed Church EP. Lu made the album with Rodaidh McDonald (The xx, Sampha, Kanye West) and features additional production on “Why Knock for You” and “Foreign Car” by Jamie xx, and on “Due West” by Skrillex. Blood also features work from Lu’s sister the violinist Jessica McJunkins. The Blood album cover is shot by Tyler Mitchell, notably the first black photographer to shoot the cover of Vogue.

This April, Lu is also set to perform headline shows at Los Angeles’ Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery and San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall. Lu will also perform at New York’s new venue The Shed as part of the “Soundtrack of America” series curated by Steve McQueen, Quincy Jones and more.

A vocalist, cellist and producer, Lu left her Charlotte, North Carolina home at 18 to study cello. Her debut EP, Church, was released in 2016 on True Panther to critical praise. Now based in Los Angeles, Lu has collaborated and shared stages with the likes of Solange, Sampha, Blood Orange, Florence Welch, Kelela, Moses Sumney, Telfar, Jil Sander and many more.
